Know Your Sisters
--A short film on sistership cities

After the visit of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in December'88 a new Chapter of Sino-Indian relations was opened. Bilateral relations between the two countries developed steadily. In 1992 the Consulate General of China in Mumbai was re-opened.

The States of Maharashtra and Karnataka come under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of China in Mumbai. The Consulate General in Mumbai is actively supporting local government to government exchanges. And over the past two years, the friendly exchanges and cooperation between different provinces and cities of China and Maharashtra have increased significantly.

Honorable Chief Minister Of Maharashtra Mr.Devendra Fadanvis visited Beijing, Dunhuang, Qingdao last year. Followed by some important visits like 'Official visit of Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China to Mumbai in the month of June '2015,Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao to Aurangabad in the month of November' 2015', 'Visit of Mr. Han Zheng, a member of Political Bureau of the communist party of China and Party Secretary, CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee to Mumbai in the month of May' 2016' and 'the Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi's meeting  with Governor of Maharashtra state Chennamaneni Vidyasaga Rao in Mumbai in September' 2016'.

Through such exchanges and cooperation, the Consulate General in Mumbai is enhancing the sister city relationships. Mumbai, Aurangabad, Solapur and Nagpur are the sister cities of Shanghai, Dunhuang, Shijiazhuang and Jinan of China respectively. Why these cities are sisters?

Shanghai and Mumbai are economical, financial centres of China and India respectively. They occupy similar status in their own country in terms of economic, population and potential of future development. They are also linked by the Sea Silk Road.

Dunhuang and Aurangabad are both the cities of Ancient Buddhism culture They are tied by the ancient Silk Road.

Dr.Kotnis who worked and gave his life for the people of China during the World War II was the son of  Solapur. His cemetery was officially set up by the Chinese Government in Shijiazhuang which is the capital city of Hebei Province. So Dr . Kotnis is the strong bond between Shijiazhuang and Solapur.

Jinan is the capital city of Shandong province, one of the coastal and leading industrial provinces of China. Both Jinan and Nagpur are major manufacturing bases of their own countries.
