On the morning of April 30, Qatar Airways' flight QR881 from Chongqing to Doha was forced to land in Mumbai due to a breakdown. More than 250 Chinese passengers were stranded. Several passengers contacted the Chinese Consulate in Mumbai requesting for help.

Upon receiving the phone call, the Consulate attached great importance to this matter. Consul General Mr. Tang Guocai, who was serving in Beijing, immediately arranged the concerned sections in the Consulate to learn the situation as soon as possible, urge Qatar Airways to coordinate with the Immigration Department of the Indian Airport to facilitate Chinese passengers to leave the airport and check-in with the hotels provided by the airlines as soon as possible, and ask the airport staff of the Mumbai Branch of Air China to provide assistance. The working team from the Consulate arrived at the scene soon afterwards.

After coordination, all Chinese passengers were checked-in at the ITC Hotel. Subsequently, Deputy Consul General Wang Yanhua and Consul Deng Xingsheng went to the hotel to visit the stranded passengers and assisted Qatar Airways to organize the passengers to leave the hotel for the airport in an orderly manner. At 3 a.m. on May 1, all Chinese passengers flew to Doha.
