The Consulate Supports Chinese Enterprises to Donate Medical Supplies to Mumbai Red Cross Society and ICFA

On June 11, 2021, Consul General Tang Guocai participated in the online handover ceremony of 135 oxygen concentrators, 5 ventilators and a large number of masks from Fosun Foundation to Mumbai Red Cross Society and India-China Friendship Association. Wang Yifei, Chief Representative of Fosun Group in India, Dr. G.H. Fernandes, President of China-India Friendship Association, Mr. Suresh Deora, Chairman of Mumbai Red Cross Society, and representatives of beneficiary hospitals attended the ceremony.

Mr. Tang, in his speech, pointed out the importance of the local and economic exchanges, which would serve as an important bridge for Sino-Indian anti-epidemic and development cooperation. At the beginning of the second wave of COVID-19 in India in May this year, 1 lakh masks, 150 ventilators and other medical supplies donated by the Fuxing, arrived in Mumbai at the earliest. In mid-May, the first batch of anti-epidemic materials, such as 100 oxygen concentrators and 40 ventilators donated by the Red Cross Society of China, arrived in Bangalore. Since then, donations from various localities, enterprises and institutions in China have continued to flow. Donations from Shanghai, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, have reached Maharashtra and Karnataka cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, etc. China continues to actively implement the spirit of condolences from Chairman Xi Jinping to Prime Minister Modi with concrete actions which fully reflects the friendship and determination of the Chinese and Indian people to help each other overcome the epidemic.

Mr. Tang said that unlike Western media, which always fail to pay lip service, China has always kept its promises and is the most reliable to do so. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The key to the success of the CPC in leading the world’s most populous country is that everything is people-centred. Empty talk misleads the country, while hard work helps it prosper. China and India are the largest developing countries, accounting for one-third of the world’s population. Facing the epidemic, both China and India are fellow sufferers. The virus, not neighbour, is our real enemy. It is greatly expected from the people that China and India could join hands to defeat the epidemic and promote development together.

Mr. Tang called on all sectors of the consular district to further emancipate their minds and release the potential. China took the lead in overcoming the epidemic, bringing great opportunities for India’s anti-virus fight, people’s livelihood, and post-epidemic development. Most of the medical equipment, such as oxygen concentrators, urgently needed in India are from China. Sino-Indian trade has grown against the global recession, benefiting the people of both countries. Facts have proved that mutual trust and cooperation between India and China is the only correct choice to give full play to the enormous potential and historical responsibilities of the two ancient civilizations.

At the end, Mr. Tang said, “the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, is coming. This festival commemorates the great poet Qu Yuan, who lives over 2000 years ago and was concerned about the people and the country, which imply well-being and auspiciousness. I sincerely wish the people of China and India good health and an early victory over the epidemic.

Dr. Frenandes and others thanked China for its strong support and sincere kindness, and reiterated their firm commitment to the Sino-Indian friendship. The beneficiary hospitals also introduced the use of donated materials for the treatment of patients. Besides, Consul General Tang recently had phone conversations with Mr. P. Ravi Kumar, Chief Secretary of Karnataka and Mr. V. Bhaskaran, Secretary-General of the India-China Friendship Association Karnataka Branch, to communicate and implement the donation of the anti-epidemic materials to Karnataka. They both expressed deep gratitude to China for its timely help and looked forward to strengthening local friendly exchanges and cooperation after the epidemic.

Commercial Counsellor Liu Mingming also attended the event.
